In Uttarakhand state, farmer’s income is low due to small, fragmented, and undulated land holdings, inadequate agricultural and marketing facilities, and a high degree of risks and uncertainty in crop cultivation due to rained conditions.

As a result, farmers are required to adopt a diversified farming system. Mushroom cultivation can have a positive impact on migration in rural Uttarakhand by providing alternative sources of income and livelihoods We use mushroom cultivation as a way of curbing migration and providing livelihoods to people in Uttarakhand.

In the seminar organized on migration in 2018, one conclusion also emerged that how profit can be earned through self-employment by cultivating organic mushrooms. It was started by the committee members in December 2018. In the first attempt we prepared 92 bags of mushrooms. Its result turned out to be much better than expected. We took this successful effort forward and our committee member Virendra Verma is going from village to village to encourage the farmers and women and give them free training so that the villagers can earn a good livelihood.
